System Requirements

To watch videos on you must be connected to the Internet. We recommend a 3G, 4G or Wi-Fi connection for optimal mobile viewing.

For an optimal site experience, better encryption, and privacy support, recommends using the latest versions (current and previous major releases) of the browsers and mobile OS listed below.

Recommended settings for the website

Important: Using older browser versions can prevent you from accessing, and some site features may not function as expected. Please note that browsers supported on desktop may be different from those supported on mobile.

With the exception of Internet Explorer (IE11), we support the current and previous major releases of the following desktop browsers:

Internet Explorer 11 (If you are unable to edit your profile or use a site feature, try disabling Internet Explorer’s compatibility mode).

  • Microsoft Edge (current and last major revision)
  • Firefox (current and last major revision)
  • Safari (current and last major revision)
  • Chrome (current and last major revision)

On mobile, we support the current and previous major releases of the following browsers:

  • Safari
  • Chrome
  • Android


If you are using a current version of a supported browser and a site feature still doesn’t work as expected:

  • Determine if your internet browser is current or needs upgrading.
  • Try using a different browser (in its latest version) as a temporary workaround.

Recommended requirements for video conferencing


For bandwidth, we recommend 1Mbits download and 0.5 Mbits upload speed. Users can test their actual bandwidth using

For hardware, we recommend a dual-core CPU with at least 2G of memory. We recommend any operating system capable of running the latest versions of Google Chrome and Mozilla FireFox.

For browser, We recommend running either FireFox or Chrome. Why? Both browsers provide excellent support for web real-time communications (WebRTC). Safari, IE, and Edge will work as well, but FireFox and Chrome will deliver better audio in lower bbandwidth conditions.

In short, if the user is having any problems (such as audio is garbled or they are periodically getting disconnected), we recommend trying either FireFox or Chrome. If the problems persist, it’s likely an issue with their network. BigBlueButton will give them notifications to help troubleshoot.

If the presenter needs to share their desktop, then we recommend running FireFox.


What is needed to run desktop sharing


Only the presenter needs to have Java installed to share their desktop. You can test if your system has Java installed using the following link. To download Java onto your computer, visit the Java download page.

Screen sharing works for Mac, Unix, and PC platforms.
